Gardew, towards a sustainable food system
Made as a school project during the last year of my masters degree, Gardew is an eco-friendly line of already-cooked meals ready to eat.
What is so special about those meals is that they are made with seasonal ingredients (like the vegetables or herbs), but also with a meal substitute that is bacterial based.
Gardew came from several ideas : first of all, nowadays people and especially workers are in need of a simple solution to eat nutritious meals that don’t take too long to prepare. This is the reason why we chose to make Gardew a line of already-cooked meals, that you only have to heat-up when you come back from work, for example. Also, ecology and sustainability are center subjects in today’s talks. While climate change is closer and bigger than ever, several studies show the impact of food and especially meat on the environment. This is why Garden is made with an innovative solution to replace meat, and can be considered vegetarian, and even vegan sometimes.
Meat might be a climate-killer, still it is an important part of the majority of the population’s food. While we could have used fairly known meat substitutes such as tofu, we decided to choose an innovative solution made with bacterias that looks exactly like meat. This is an exciting new food that makes our pre cooked-meals a one-of-a-kind product.
For the artistic direction, we went with bright colors inspired by things you can see in a farm such as vegetables, fruits, flowers, grass and water. We used the madimi one font and added a pencil stroke to it so it looks handmade. We also added this stroke effect to every illustration in order to promote the fact that we work with small farms that are doing everything by themselves.
